I always like to get them out of the way early in the year. This year they took a long time because of our shorter art classes...but they are fabulous. I'll post some of them below.<br /><br /><br />In the Memorial Art Studio, students have been learning about making choices. We also are working towards behaving like artists. We've talked about how artists like to experiment sometimes with new subject matter, new ideas, new techniques and new art materials. We have several different stations set up for drawing. Our stencil station is definitely the most popular...but there has been some amazingly creative ideas generated at this station, especially in the past week as we are working more towards completing works of art, rather than just experimenting.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW37cLsXA4tUNlGBRU1PJI2GrDsxJfV_qwkBbM7fMHi4URwgy1eRMHQ3W3gMCbpwwRrnSxonWljsffizE-oX2VV8Ljux1ui14DT4tIRzPV634YD1SEdJYk6qUGms0lqtDFnF9e-2V_uMc/s1600/ARTSONIA102810+001.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5535160985042182610" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 266px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW37cLsXA4tUNlGBRU1PJI2GrDsxJfV_qwkBbM7fMHi4URwgy1eRMHQ3W3gMCbpwwRrnSxonWljsffizE-oX2VV8Ljux1ui14DT4tIRzPV634YD1SEdJYk6qUGms0lqtDFnF9e-2V_uMc/s400/ARTSONIA102810+001.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />Last week, many classes had an additional station added to their choice time. This is the still life station and students are learning to observe and draw what they see. They are also learning that as an artist, they can make decisions about what they include or leave out of their drawings, and many have added backgrounds and details that they came up with on their own. <div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidtCMX-Z-oghkekVTVwMafmWgshCK1qEL4r4NWWxx9SaWzdbIioWGBrFLrSKz6W__S93YCsii4RijNncWxHVU__eTy0IAw6uvQdX2Xu_hsNySYWL55Ghd0MfPQ4jivpVFyafWmdLyt9sM/s1600/ARTSONIA102810+055.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5535160980585575682" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 266px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidtCMX-Z-oghkekVTVwMafmWgshCK1qEL4r4NWWxx9SaWzdbIioWGBrFLrSKz6W__S93YCsii4RijNncWxHVU__eTy0IAw6uvQdX2Xu_hsNySYWL55Ghd0MfPQ4jivpVFyafWmdLyt9sM/s400/ARTSONIA102810+055.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXCOFK6C5loRK4K_3UD3mYhyCkExGRWeSRKx0yEtJUShftp-gXQIb9Ilgv7EWDp7s9mptuif7mEJfOY-9nGZ-RKiYcDxXkWjuxJwDZ4p_R5gJYFy5YvrP8qKeluVGlj8kiZN7Hr8Id3ME/s1600/ARTSONIA102810+054.jpg"></a><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXCOFK6C5loRK4K_3UD3mYhyCkExGRWeSRKx0yEtJUShftp-gXQIb9Ilgv7EWDp7s9mptuif7mEJfOY-9nGZ-RKiYcDxXkWjuxJwDZ4p_R5gJYFy5YvrP8qKeluVGlj8kiZN7Hr8Id3ME/s1600/ARTSONIA102810+054.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5535160537202598322" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: pointer; HEIGHT: 266px; TEXT-ALIGN: left" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXCOFK6C5loRK4K_3UD3mYhyCkExGRWeSRKx0yEtJUShftp-gXQIb9Ilgv7EWDp7s9mptuif7mEJfOY-9nGZ-RKiYcDxXkWjuxJwDZ4p_R5gJYFy5YvrP8qKeluVGlj8kiZN7Hr8Id3ME/s400/ARTSONIA102810+054.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /></div><div>This is a bulletin board where I have just a sample of our third graders' artwork inspired by the flower paintings of Georgia O'Keeffee. After outlining these with crayon in several colors, students painted their drawings with watercolors (liquid and regular). They had a lot of fun blending the blues, pinks and purples in the background. I showed them how to paint the paper with water first and then add the colors on top and swirl them around.</div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_tnKUQUkI0u4YVONzbqIjwSHLk8j-ewbDYqO53RIIBdOq_GJPDXBc-nl40r2sWvxA3XVDvMrpccQr2lKWa7BNk1UaUUAbkXAnIiftH3pKMQQYDeUK_8gv07hTgWFuZDzhlIciCc5whVo/s1600/towers2.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 286px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_tnKUQUkI0u4YVONzbqIjwSHLk8j-ewbDYqO53RIIBdOq_GJPDXBc-nl40r2sWvxA3XVDvMrpccQr2lKWa7BNk1UaUUAbkXAnIiftH3pKMQQYDeUK_8gv07hTgWFuZDzhlIciCc5whVo/s400/towers2.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5528666616319159938" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikiiG1XecSI66j-Db24bf5WO_Kqz4x29bGB5aKPbDAymyZFE3GyVJfwVnDJ_YYJU4WHrIiLtYfKaWjosHEiYtDmWhQOXDACZh38S8PRFRD5qrZT9zm_H9i4j0LkMKJhyqw9GFGzoOOl0g/s1600/tower3.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 286px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikiiG1XecSI66j-Db24bf5WO_Kqz4x29bGB5aKPbDAymyZFE3GyVJfwVnDJ_YYJU4WHrIiLtYfKaWjosHEiYtDmWhQOXDACZh38S8PRFRD5qrZT9zm_H9i4j0LkMKJhyqw9GFGzoOOl0g/s400/tower3.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5528666601038849682" /></a>Julie Durocherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16635126897948880623noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4423847477783630475.post-11616176445674338122010-10-16T07:51:00.000-07:002010-10-16T08:27:37.526-07:006th Grade Design Trees<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTBwBLRDJKHRXBnYtyfA7OIzpgxR79QDlG4IdLZkTEnhNRDhMvg6zqeG9qoQoTUTEhZPjOyMElA7SeRYwEQZ_8hq7yxKscGVmEiRSlNKMCDzrZkTiHrFr8865EE63q038O9_GhJQYTp4A/s1600/art+room.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTBwBLRDJKHRXBnYtyfA7OIzpgxR79QDlG4IdLZkTEnhNRDhMvg6zqeG9qoQoTUTEhZPjOyMElA7SeRYwEQZ_8hq7yxKscGVmEiRSlNKMCDzrZkTiHrFr8865EE63q038O9_GhJQYTp4A/s200/art+room.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5528663123004935618" /></a>This week, some of our 6th graders are moving towards finishing up their tree drawings. To begin this lesson, I provided my students with several visual examples of silhouettes of trees of various kinds. It would have been ideal to venture outside to actually study and sketch the trees, but we are always so short on time around here. They got the idea though...their tree drawings were simply amazing...every one! Above are just a few of the drawings where I think some creative ideas are happening. Below are a couple of drawings. I wanted you to be able to see the great designs these artists are coming up with. So fun!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4tGcfE2S30UVmTjfAENsXBoZXBc6eMSAiH_6UEW1qUaoNdmAg6xCOzphmBiETMMi58OlftpoXeZxhJlH0voJT_nRGKO_SwtHC5tkB0NLP9d-uA6sbdpaY26eBVscSdBa9glbvlhv38cU/s1600/tree5.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 143px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4tGcfE2S30UVmTjfAENsXBoZXBc6eMSAiH_6UEW1qUaoNdmAg6xCOzphmBiETMMi58OlftpoXeZxhJlH0voJT_nRGKO_SwtHC5tkB0NLP9d-uA6sbdpaY26eBVscSdBa9glbvlhv38cU/s200/tree5.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5528662896035943346" /></a>This lesson provided a great opportunity for learning about positive and negative space. I am very sad. I take pictures with it everyday...and it is weird not having it. Hopefully I will get a replacement soon...and I may use my personal camera in the meantime. Look for some posts later this week!Julie Durocherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16635126897948880623noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4423847477783630475.post-30218413780858213782010-10-02T15:38:00.000-07:002010-10-02T15:45:30.445-07:00Work in ProgressYes, it's the 5th week of school and we still haven't completed a project! (except for our mini-portraits). I think that is mostly because of our 30 minute art classes. But we are on our way. We started our projects for our Art to Remember fundraiser last week. Fourth Grade are drawing lighthouses in colored pencil, Fifth Grade are creating Russian Towers with crayon and watercolor and 6th Graders are making tree drawings and filling the negative space with marker designs. I thought I would show you some of the fabulous beginnings I've noticed!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrxPc-6lltRPId82IyWt8x_TsqLfQfpyXXI3A3LfNMXzo8M03JAN3KHnYyJOT4gGaIb2DR9ftzELx1ZUZM33PvzKGMC5dLzuP6PAcvkEV6O61C7vchC0oklEMu4SW2ryeIzANYirAIpqM/s1600/art2010+028.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 143px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrxPc-6lltRPId82IyWt8x_TsqLfQfpyXXI3A3LfNMXzo8M03JAN3KHnYyJOT4gGaIb2DR9ftzELx1ZUZM33PvzKGMC5dLzuP6PAcvkEV6O61C7vchC0oklEMu4SW2ryeIzANYirAIpqM/s200/art2010+028.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5523583351034719666" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXDpJ53fXX2PPzkdSHnWXpLuBNypeUncFKH4zRxUw_SPxzGdptj0guil8m_c5jMZEgMH7RhMQq8F8PGK8HHWwStiQglAs5U2wwPJEFoK-kQ0IbeV6r1Tf1BxijupGm3T1QyQzmxfk0EkQ/s1600/art2010+025.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 143px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXDpJ53fXX2PPzkdSHnWXpLuBNypeUncFKH4zRxUw_SPxzGdptj0guil8m_c5jMZEgMH7RhMQq8F8PGK8HHWwStiQglAs5U2wwPJEFoK-kQ0IbeV6r1Tf1BxijupGm3T1QyQzmxfk0EkQ/s200/art2010+025.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5523583342081483890" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio5JP0_l_a41O13V4guzKuB5TpfuazUYYHyrG0_kP1XeqpB9EgM08auG7k5jWcw97dBVUiCfffi4TZYN6-FORjVn9riQokY2C3FcAspVCnVFWTPThW8gWmA8GEPnDqdRK4-ychtYPQl7k/s1600/art2010+023.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 143px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio5JP0_l_a41O13V4guzKuB5TpfuazUYYHyrG0_kP1XeqpB9EgM08auG7k5jWcw97dBVUiCfffi4TZYN6-FORjVn9riQokY2C3FcAspVCnVFWTPThW8gWmA8GEPnDqdRK4-ychtYPQl7k/s200/art2010+023.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5523583342745410978" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0LBuLC-QK4QZhacDss80ICBS3rYPTFQkLwDYbeTr8MTLjmiKqYS1rcFza3GPuD38rjPiF5eDr35iIBEnRzmZ1YNTpk8jj90Mx4btrcNKMkiRPPhk7ff2Xs-_cAvEgyDhXBDdyEr2A5c4/s1600/art2010+019.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 143px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0LBuLC-QK4QZhacDss80ICBS3rYPTFQkLwDYbeTr8MTLjmiKqYS1rcFza3GPuD38rjPiF5eDr35iIBEnRzmZ1YNTpk8jj90Mx4btrcNKMkiRPPhk7ff2Xs-_cAvEgyDhXBDdyEr2A5c4/s200/art2010+019.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5523583336099280930" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijJGO-BopLXyEJ7t-ggx0nXpP77RDW21jzjxGcW1-mlB5M2cqTFc2SCrQRItF23_lWfoHCoqPqZ9YeFCc11LAWseCp2b_bszY0oeqgQT3N1ybMRggAgL2131jbiTm_n68j7ow0KK_xwXQ/s1600/art2010+018.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 143px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijJGO-BopLXyEJ7t-ggx0nXpP77RDW21jzjxGcW1-mlB5M2cqTFc2SCrQRItF23_lWfoHCoqPqZ9YeFCc11LAWseCp2b_bszY0oeqgQT3N1ybMRggAgL2131jbiTm_n68j7ow0KK_xwXQ/s200/art2010+018.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5523583328007543794" /></a>Julie Durocherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16635126897948880623noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4423847477783630475.post-62010707420255804912010-10-02T15:29:00.000-07:002010-10-02T15:49:17.768-07:00Mural Finished<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlPnzfufcR9DPx9we4eEHb5vCI0VNCcf3UwZjeGlyE8YnYRAsmBIiS-SLnPAHPWdiEYQj5_zhleGs07hpB1cyfg5aKFBw9gSQ0fQpkbWFtw22lY9RpliqBvBXo_PjCvf30LYHhyphenhyphen79ptos/s1600/art2010+009.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlPnzfufcR9DPx9we4eEHb5vCI0VNCcf3UwZjeGlyE8YnYRAsmBIiS-SLnPAHPWdiEYQj5_zhleGs07hpB1cyfg5aKFBw9gSQ0fQpkbWFtw22lY9RpliqBvBXo_PjCvf30LYHhyphenhyphen79ptos/s320/art2010+009.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5523581340783402018" /></a>Well, this is our completed mural...at Bertha Robinson. We put it up earlier this week. It has just about every student in our school on it. Of course, we had some that didn't finish because of absences and a few didn't follow directions, so those weren't included. But, we really like how it turned out. It was hard to get a good picture of the whole thing because our hallway isn't real bright. I've included a few close ups too!<div><br /><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg13of6gpIrKUjFg_S9hSC154C7QRKkSPgWnkKrUU2ERUQJjelxpqMe2CyOG685CIDgsyu14f8UbhohtYaJKvbmZtNOXQWHc6xeY4bSMnZ-eD1FlzEgmcUOYWialely1_xufIIFfqoOzx4/s320/art2010+017.jpg" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5523580556287066818" /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqzIgjOrhA9SgnNTa5wr_nxNUxXEWPnYtmH_jPG_PUqJHdvlTmFgPiuTM3b6YAMrWFFddVD54eBViSaZz9bgRM5gAFnP4qWyp5op0iqaWehfCVFJ_gdh5KyuLVjXS7xSBdronIxxhgHTI/s1600/art2010+012.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqzIgjOrhA9SgnNTa5wr_nxNUxXEWPnYtmH_jPG_PUqJHdvlTmFgPiuTM3b6YAMrWFFddVD54eBViSaZz9bgRM5gAFnP4qWyp5op0iqaWehfCVFJ_gdh5KyuLVjXS7xSBdronIxxhgHTI/s320/art2010+012.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5523580548571574434" /></a><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFnFCTGBUh6cuLa3AzxAX5n-5uagedooGENgMxls0y0IZzKP1TPTLd7gZwgREJTRyAdW2K8Io_493H8_2e0UjQtuMYM4IMcw0p_yE1i3aXb-mAcMip8Sb8WLsBibpItXKlJhaP3K6fC28/s320/art2010+011.jpg" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5523580542296363714" /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div></div>Julie Durocherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16635126897948880623noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4423847477783630475.post-15429169734742036242010-09-24T19:43:00.000-07:002010-09-24T20:01:22.177-07:00Some Photos from this Week<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBuSXOdKHaYxIlZHyG3680GTyOTloE5nU8LSICOaxcTPSHZy5paeefnACr-d_Samg73oTO3KsjJTChr0u9BullGfoV_c6FvPswIfqY8mAa0l8a-ZCwGeRgrrO1okpMp-iu2XYJRw83Occ/s1600/art2010+007.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBuSXOdKHaYxIlZHyG3680GTyOTloE5nU8LSICOaxcTPSHZy5paeefnACr-d_Samg73oTO3KsjJTChr0u9BullGfoV_c6FvPswIfqY8mAa0l8a-ZCwGeRgrrO1okpMp-iu2XYJRw83Occ/s320/art2010+007.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5520678823276936882" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">Alaina, Lailah, Alyea and Abbi are busy working on putting together the mural of all of our self portraits during their recess. We've been having great fun in Art though. This week we finished up our portraits for the mural we are putting together (see previous post) and began our Art to Remember projects.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div>At Robinson, fourth graders are working on creating a drawing of a lighthouse, 5th graders will be doing a drawing of some Russian towers inspired by St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, Russia. And 6th graders are working on some amazing drawings of trees.</div><div><div><br /></div><div>At Memorial, we are still going over procedures and reviewing rules and we are finishing up our portraits too. Second and third grade classes have started their Art to Remember projects this week and are eager to spend some more time on them next week. Next week, some of my third graders will be helping me put together the mural for Memorial. </div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div>In case you aren't familiar with <a href="http://www.arttoremember.com/">Art to Remember</a>, it is a fundraiser we do to buy supplies for the art program in our elementary schools. Our art budget is *very* small, our parents' support through Art to Remember helps to buy supplies for Art Class that we wouldn't be able to afford otherwise. Not to mention that Art to Remember has a huge variety of items you can buy with your student's artwork on it. New this year, and my all time favorite product, ever...a nightlight! We have it plugged in the art room so the kids can see it! They all want one!</div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV9MnHqjlkJhvmJfxQqIBYQ5jHMd5Z4IXfBhXN60_nOb91m4xG13K7XAPN9FYj8Z7btoPFPVRienubrl6PNtvD2gEmn5g46Ju0T1R7em0p_2r4Cm-OtZwNAzkNO0QNHOJAKGi0L_k7DcM/s320/nightlight.png" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 254px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5520670952788333106" /><div><br /></div>Julie Durocherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16635126897948880623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4423847477783630475.post-4228142037888273932010-09-09T20:26:00.000-07:002010-09-09T20:38:29.904-07:00I'm back!!!<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>Yes, it's been two years since I posted ANYTHING on this blog. Here's why.: because of cuts in our district, I was reduced to half time art and was also assigned half day kindergarten. I taught kindergarten and art for two years. It was a crazy time! But I am glad for the experience, really. <div>This year I am back to teaching art to all the 750 something kids DK-grade 6 in our district...and I couldn't be happier. OK...well, of course I would be happier if I had longer art classes (half hour classes back to back are hard to get used to) and if I had more money in my budget...that would always be nice. But really, I am looking forward to an amazing year! I am so excited about the possibilities this year holds for me.</div><div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVgivCpaJXE0QAg9YjEkjNlcvW8-nChoYMPZnaz7IV1IddhZgU8bA3mfNTn_7oEhusmEUUtCrUdRBy0ZJHhqDctefcqY3Ekxp9wzYuY-F6HEIdcyw09zdSNy30AC5CufEB3VdgRU0zAks/s320/mural.jpg" style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 168px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5515123564979409138" /></div><div>Our beginning of the year project is an idea I got from <a href="http://bartz-mrszwahl.blogspot.com/">this</a> great art teacher's site...I've barely had 10 minutes in each class to have the kids work on it...because first days require going over rules and expectations...but I think they are loving the challenge of creating a "mono-chromatic" picture using only one color. </div><div><br /></div>Julie Durocherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16635126897948880623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4423847477783630475.post-47545423972464162312008-11-13T21:40:00.000-08:002008-11-13T21:50:36.899-08:00Russian Towers<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhPtrTU0TpjoDmGrTDAXpJu4RYSYZYKr1uuX6udd4cViN3nzIDT4ehXv5TkXq0GtjztQT-ldCnRi6HVJ9pDrNpMODHzdd1QwLwky_C1YEIKvYWn2zM1x0aMXwkdDw4rHp-_p93g_UCcgY/s1600-h/October2+005.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 165px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhPtrTU0TpjoDmGrTDAXpJu4RYSYZYKr1uuX6udd4cViN3nzIDT4ehXv5TkXq0GtjztQT-ldCnRi6HVJ9pDrNpMODHzdd1QwLwky_C1YEIKvYWn2zM1x0aMXwkdDw4rHp-_p93g_UCcgY/s200/October2+005.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5268386525778451794" /></a><br />This lesson is based on the beautifully patterned towers of St. Basil's cathedral in Moscow, Russia. Our students learned about this wonder of the world and then, inspired by the designs, we created our own version of the awesome towers. This year I am only teaching art at Memorial and Mrs. Gunderson who teaches art at the High School has taken over the art classes at Robinson. I am now teaching art in the morning and an afternoon Kindergarten class. It is going to be a challenging year for me to be both a classroom teacher and a "specials" teacher...but I am up for the challenge. And though it seems a bit overwhelming right now, I am really looking forward to having my own class this year. <br /><br />For this school year, this site will be representing only Memorial students.Julie Durocherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16635126897948880623noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4423847477783630475.post-47615651627834178842008-05-19T05:42:00.001-07:002008-05-19T06:03:07.993-07:00End of the Year Art Studio<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnAdvseiGaSKCfUeBPAk-o8BcmgCtszFsbAS69s2cREKYazNLeOiF6_RcZqnTJgNwmIqVZTCfmjekLfXURqxh1URpIrD_QyrGP0GjsdV2-IBmP11ZirSNPBPHOzpOEPwQkuwBdBIzZOnM/s1600-h/IMG_1366.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnAdvseiGaSKCfUeBPAk-o8BcmgCtszFsbAS69s2cREKYazNLeOiF6_RcZqnTJgNwmIqVZTCfmjekLfXURqxh1URpIrD_QyrGP0GjsdV2-IBmP11ZirSNPBPHOzpOEPwQkuwBdBIzZOnM/s320/IMG_1366.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5202070526867720642" /></a>In art, the last few weeks, many of our classes have been enjoying working in stations. I have been trying out choice art with my classes. Choice art is a way of teaching art where students are given choices (stations - like centers) to work in and they choose to work in areas that interest them. We have had some fabulous art work created the past few weeks and many of the students have been enjoying this change. This drawing was created by Josh P., one of our Memorial third graders. He created the drawing very quickly, looking down at his chair and drew what he saw. Then he colored it with oil pastels. Here are some other pictures of students working in their various stations.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJPg_KKg8hTMMLLgaedayfBLIOtkoiJs1S0_KUMkTkLdc5jFbMMEZGLzF5CAAPFv-WDmuSHCDzTTNGIBF9o0uwb8qPjPfVf732Xg8Y-UGfGhcsTNo_O5HVHj2F_HkDYVNd3PQQ6hsqhmo/s1600-h/IMG_1342.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJPg_KKg8hTMMLLgaedayfBLIOtkoiJs1S0_KUMkTkLdc5jFbMMEZGLzF5CAAPFv-WDmuSHCDzTTNGIBF9o0uwb8qPjPfVf732Xg8Y-UGfGhcsTNo_O5HVHj2F_HkDYVNd3PQQ6hsqhmo/s200/IMG_1342.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5202072627106728402" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_PxABMfZX_6525ouWmOONeVVRjBvki2xHOy4A0NJo43pC1ipB_bDAXDoxokwo0Ujvm1CRf-CMgcg41J3ajrMNpI9ysgFLkCk_5s_-IU_hDKLNRLrtu6WdT2Dv-iJaokwBxubLfYTOfyU/s1600-h/IMG_1341.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_PxABMfZX_6525ouWmOONeVVRjBvki2xHOy4A0NJo43pC1ipB_bDAXDoxokwo0Ujvm1CRf-CMgcg41J3ajrMNpI9ysgFLkCk_5s_-IU_hDKLNRLrtu6WdT2Dv-iJaokwBxubLfYTOfyU/s200/IMG_1341.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5202072635696663010" /></a>At Robinson, last week, I even took the third graders outside to draw the front of our school building. There was artwork submitted from over 30 schools in Jackson County. 59 pieces were selected by a jury and professionally framed. The artwork was exhibited in October, 2007 at the Ella Sharp Museum. The Art 'a Loan pieces have been rented for one year to community businesses, corporations, colleges and universities and other art patrons to be on display to the public. We are excited to have our three students be a part of this great program and I plan to submit more artwork this May for the 2008 exhibit this Fall.<br />Congratulations to Alicia, Ankur and Payton!Julie Durocherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16635126897948880623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4423847477783630475.post-70927808591475425372008-03-19T06:16:00.000-07:002008-03-19T11:24:10.278-07:00Colorful Castles<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEU8WY36BdTyam0a-WevuulwAA11QHWsIZl1gPVgrL6VdkNzZxCJWZkFXuV5uJGfRjTRLemPMjlHkrODm4BYLOfowInwPmlsA4eDMWLOlpQh5EIcP1Tx3sdJs4CiGEq2tfkmZxHyJO9iw/s1600-h/IMG_0736.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEU8WY36BdTyam0a-WevuulwAA11QHWsIZl1gPVgrL6VdkNzZxCJWZkFXuV5uJGfRjTRLemPMjlHkrODm4BYLOfowInwPmlsA4eDMWLOlpQh5EIcP1Tx3sdJs4CiGEq2tfkmZxHyJO9iw/s200/IMG_0736.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5179445072116871378" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ5l4QwydSCfbeiJ-yvrE4ybCTyviYhkgrp15_b5Z-nrQjU6Jy7LDrjAS7lNYO8niCcNpLUYEsMshqQ3YaNNo0DvazjgRbqCQFZNpvO_zVcjxQk91Y7o0vLRTX7dnp20Urad6hMQFNBA8/s1600-h/IMG_0739.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ5l4QwydSCfbeiJ-yvrE4ybCTyviYhkgrp15_b5Z-nrQjU6Jy7LDrjAS7lNYO8niCcNpLUYEsMshqQ3YaNNo0DvazjgRbqCQFZNpvO_zVcjxQk91Y7o0vLRTX7dnp20Urad6hMQFNBA8/s200/IMG_0739.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5179443611827990706" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBcTJWnbopXxd6Eet_MpbtzVzBcN1cyliyu6yayqZj8Z61ANXdxLFg3eR6mnoQH2vuPXWhyphenhyphenOknnT89zkHHzt9amK-TE7eg4vWuBC_neCFPPAT4J0nVPs8IpTgaiZr_DuqmiUCnSNu7zfs/s1600-h/IMG_0749.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBcTJWnbopXxd6Eet_MpbtzVzBcN1cyliyu6yayqZj8Z61ANXdxLFg3eR6mnoQH2vuPXWhyphenhyphenOknnT89zkHHzt9amK-TE7eg4vWuBC_neCFPPAT4J0nVPs8IpTgaiZr_DuqmiUCnSNu7zfs/s200/IMG_0749.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5179443620417925314" /></a>Using templates made from wooden blocks, our second grade students created these fabulous colorful castles. We studied the art of Frank Stella, specifically his artwork "Jarama II." There is a great online slideshow that takes you through observing and talking about the artwork at <a href="http://www.nga.gov/kids/stella/stella1.htm"target="_blank">www.nga.gov</a>. When I presented this lesson I used a powerpoint that I created from that slideshow. We then returned to our seats to brainstorm a list of activities...and we broadened it to any physical activity - not just sports. We recorded these on the board. I then chose one and showed them on the board how you would represent that activity with shapes, and lines. I asked the students to think about the equipment, the movements and the colors in their chosen activity and then they spent time sketching their ideas. It was difficult for many of them to think in such abstract terms, but we kind of tried to make it like a guessing game for the viewer. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimoepWG0icxnY2b71yHZRYRn0_M9nks1l3FBDFzPSh4FXd6dOL74vZ2LH92P_3T_hV4igPuxngVHbWfxNgo3x6x53v6DRWPJ_WKKSqcoTWoq8O3OPmiZ1GENDvVRpkJroG9auE-OFIHdU/s1600-h/IMG_0316.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimoepWG0icxnY2b71yHZRYRn0_M9nks1l3FBDFzPSh4FXd6dOL74vZ2LH92P_3T_hV4igPuxngVHbWfxNgo3x6x53v6DRWPJ_WKKSqcoTWoq8O3OPmiZ1GENDvVRpkJroG9auE-OFIHdU/s200/IMG_0316.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5168707363460632178" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYXHyw0_TydwRqwyq43mY_1JJBBYZWHVNqEAe8DriBrDZCA912h-wKBstAiK3hopEXucmUPyHPO20Znz6Pp2D5SXRU8LI76onJ-xIymW-_1YwTDAO6c_Rw8jJTwoHeGQZMNoOCuM9-LfM/s1600-h/IMG_0315.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYXHyw0_TydwRqwyq43mY_1JJBBYZWHVNqEAe8DriBrDZCA912h-wKBstAiK3hopEXucmUPyHPO20Znz6Pp2D5SXRU8LI76onJ-xIymW-_1YwTDAO6c_Rw8jJTwoHeGQZMNoOCuM9-LfM/s200/IMG_0315.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5168707367755599490" /></a>We didn't want to make it obvious what the activity was - so they were not allowed to represent the activity in any realistic way. Once students had developed their ideas, they began cutting their shapes from cardboard. Once all their shapes were cut, they arranged them and I took a picture of it. After that, they began to paint. First covering all their pieces with colors, then adding patterns or designs with paint. Once everything was painted, students assembled and glued their pieces together to finish them. I do this one every year. The kids really enjoy it. I think they enjoy it because of the opportunity for creativity it provides. This is a lesson I developed myself after a friend gave me about 200 packages of old unused vinyl letters and numbers (the kind you might use on signs and in graphic design). <br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9WXxGszD_ue9XcB8gWFAT6ntL7sXBWBrJX7jxbH9ePuoom6PKjITW_ewgsPlNb98ZWJdhmI4qGvZUSYojflFAbgiuA_t4-vQcYdKT0L_YwQIMKfSP6uXnWwlpx8a5r-BNGudeYL09KyY/s1600-h/IMG_0164.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9WXxGszD_ue9XcB8gWFAT6ntL7sXBWBrJX7jxbH9ePuoom6PKjITW_ewgsPlNb98ZWJdhmI4qGvZUSYojflFAbgiuA_t4-vQcYdKT0L_YwQIMKfSP6uXnWwlpx8a5r-BNGudeYL09KyY/s400/IMG_0164.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5166515826333077042" /></a><br /><br />Materials:<br />letter and number stencils (I use bulletin board letters and stencil sheets)<br />crayons<br />watercolor<br />number and letter stickers <br />9 x 9 inch square white drawing paper<br /><br />Procedure:<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEQ7FYMJm77DvqKkmdiEcWKUov8bnxxTg_4v_tEYBIZTHTubyOlo3X7jAtstFlxa_4JzIv6-c_ZQrQWBqMaGnJNuQw5pFMFVmmA7FrpgaDZDHnzl_bqVEUVxRTGgyFC0HUAt9JgqlfpFI/s1600-h/NUMBERS.jpg"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEQ7FYMJm77DvqKkmdiEcWKUov8bnxxTg_4v_tEYBIZTHTubyOlo3X7jAtstFlxa_4JzIv6-c_ZQrQWBqMaGnJNuQw5pFMFVmmA7FrpgaDZDHnzl_bqVEUVxRTGgyFC0HUAt9JgqlfpFI/s320/NUMBERS.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5166488853938458146" /></a>We begin this project by looking at artwork by Jasper Johns. We talk about the process of creating prints (as most of his work is). We discuss the colors and ways he used the numbers in his artwork. We also discuss the way he overlapped his numbers, and repeated them in specific pieces that we look at on a powerpoint that I have made.<br />First, I provide each table with an assortment of letters and numbers to trace onto their white paper. I always demonstrate how to trace "the right way", because sometimes first graders haven't learned this yet. We also talk about overlapping and letting the numbers and letters go right off the page, that they don't have to be organized into rows.<br />The kids really do a nice job with their compositions and when they finish the next step is to outline and color them in with crayons. I encourage them to fill their letters and numbers in with patterns like stripes or zig-zag lines. <br />After the coloring is finished, the students are provided with several sheets of letter and number stickers. I don't really give them a lot of guidance on this part. It's fun to see how they place them on thier artwork...sometimes we even have kids spelling out names or words and phone numbers!<br />The last step for this project is to paint with watercolor. The students notice that they can't cover up the crayon...and that certain colors of paint really make the crayon stand out. They always turn out so colorful and make nice abstract works of art that they are all proud of.<br /><br />We spend three to four class periods on this project.<br /><a href="http://www.artsonia.com/museum/gallery.asp?exhibit=111350"target="_blank">...more student examples here...</a>Julie Durocherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16635126897948880623noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4423847477783630475.post-54773331711641382792008-02-04T08:45:00.000-08:002008-02-13T11:21:32.933-08:00New Student Gallery at ARTSONIA<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg81hgHyc0RauFr7O-P9O6T0KmE1LFKkQ9O5NwanSoKxqJqSXtOmeHoxIiohKtW8iK09v2QsKxrHHRYr9S5ZJ0ZZN-lXD3B2On5F3YQbjP1-EUy49foJ2uTDSSkkswjRfvkIR4Ig-hv7D8/s1600-h/Artsonialogo.gif"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg81hgHyc0RauFr7O-P9O6T0KmE1LFKkQ9O5NwanSoKxqJqSXtOmeHoxIiohKtW8iK09v2QsKxrHHRYr9S5ZJ0ZZN-lXD3B2On5F3YQbjP1-EUy49foJ2uTDSSkkswjRfvkIR4Ig-hv7D8/s200/Artsonialogo.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163207226265698306" /></a>I have recently been working on uploading artwork to Artsonia, the largest student art museum on the Internet. This is the coolest thing! I have been wanting to publish some of our students' fantastic work in a gallery, and Artsonia is a great service that I am very excited about. Artsonia is the world's largest online art museum with thousands of works of art by students in over 100 countries. I believe this project will help boost the students' pride and self-esteem, technology awareness and multi-cultural understanding. Further, the project enables parents, relatives and friends to view the child's artwork online. I encourage you to participate in Artsonia by registering. As a registered parent you can submit artwork to your child's gallery, invite family and friends to join the artist's fan club and also approve any comments that visitors leave in your child's guestbook. Besides showcasing our students' artwork, Artsonia also offers parents cool gift items imprinted with your child's artwork, much like Art to Remember (our Spring Art Fundraiser). Our school art program will recieve 15% of all the order revenue. So not only do you get great gifts and keepsakes, but your order directly supports our art program. You can view your student's artwork by visiting <a href="www.artsonia.com"target="_blank">www.artsonia.com</a> and searching for our school or by first name. Not all students have artwork published yet, but I'm working on it. When your student's artwork is published, I will send home a note with their screenname and password. You can find out more about Artsonia and all they have to offer by clicking the link.Julie Durocherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16635126897948880623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4423847477783630475.post-77261033075943652652008-01-31T12:04:00.000-08:002008-02-13T11:21:57.673-08:00ART TO REMEMBER<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4gQHQYDos5J1_ukF2vf6VToY9NkoHnfPMwty7Dk1JMDvTmnPV4Fjhgh2Jk44N6UHYC4z7UgTTZrZgGxhI4rl8lote0xNtTnyZryUFQE0P3y_Yu-pgPQWy7znW6GwIbRXCwizQ3AOszMw/s1600-h/Keychain2.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4gQHQYDos5J1_ukF2vf6VToY9NkoHnfPMwty7Dk1JMDvTmnPV4Fjhgh2Jk44N6UHYC4z7UgTTZrZgGxhI4rl8lote0xNtTnyZryUFQE0P3y_Yu-pgPQWy7znW6GwIbRXCwizQ3AOszMw/s320/Keychain2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161736981650866162" /></a>Our annual <a href="http://www.arttoremember.com/"target="_blank">Art to Remember</a> fundraiser will be starting soon. This is a great opportunity where your child's artwork can be reproduced on a variety of quality items that can be used for gifts and keepsakes. We participate in this program every year. Our East Jackson parents have been very supportive in the past. It is an important fundraiser for the art program because it helps us offer a quality art education to our elementary students by providing the main funding of the art materials and supplies that we use throughout the year. Please consider participating in this great fundraiser. Order packets will be sent home the first week of March and orders will be due on Friday, March 21st.Julie Durocherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16635126897948880623noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4423847477783630475.post-6941532917433241712008-01-31T11:26:00.000-08:002008-02-13T11:22:59.681-08:00Crazy Cactus<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGxyJLmC6simi-KFLR1AotqCQeHBWMDp-14S7cyVcr8rZbIax9zsiGM8PxDRXx7g3lbVM8MECZnzLG85FwheeI0pOP6BwOMozyx94M-kY9kg-ev_wsiD9Vq2QfTKtEarDB6DpQdOSZVmg/s1600-h/cactus1.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGxyJLmC6simi-KFLR1AotqCQeHBWMDp-14S7cyVcr8rZbIax9zsiGM8PxDRXx7g3lbVM8MECZnzLG85FwheeI0pOP6BwOMozyx94M-kY9kg-ev_wsiD9Vq2QfTKtEarDB6DpQdOSZVmg/s320/cactus1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161728035233988514" /></a>I left this art lesson for my sub while I was on my maternity leave. I was impressed with how they turned out. Our fifth graders did a fantastic job. The inspiration for this lesson was the artwork of <a href="http://www.carmenlomasgarza.com/"target="_blank">Carmen Lomas Garza</a>.
